Malcolm Goff
Malcolm heads the Clinical Negligence department. He is a member of the Law Society Clinical Negligence Panel and recognised as a leader in this field.
I have specialised in Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence litigation since 1984. I moved to Nottingham in 1988 and in 1991 was one of the founding partners of Barratt Goff & Tomlinson. I set up the Clinical Negligence Department.
Over the years I have successfully conducted many claims involving serious injuries, in particular, children who have sustained injury at birth or in childhood. My most memorable year was 2010 when in one month, I obtained awards for a boy suffering from brain damage as a result of oxygen starvation at birth, for a girl who was disabled because a doctor failed to admit her to hospital following a fit and for a young man who absconded from the mental hospital where he was detained and sustained a very serious head injury. These awards totalled in excess of £15 million.
These awards of compensation mean those injured clients can have a better quality of life. The compensation can help pay for appropriate care, new or adapted accommodation and ensure the rehabilitation needs of the client are met.
I was successful in the Court of Appeal on behalf of a child who sued the health authority for failure to diagnose congenital dislocation of the hip. I have since obtained compensation for several other children with this condition.
I am a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers and a supporter of AvMA (Action against Medical Accidents).
In addition to the Clinical Negligence work, I sit as a part-time Judge for the Criminal Injuries Compensation Appeal Tribunal.
Outside work I have long given up trying to keep up with my children but I have been known to cycle to work and attend the gym.
My personal assistant is Julie Collingham who has worked with me for over 18 years.
