David was born in Wilford,
Nottingham.
He attended Magnus Grammar School in Newark, and
then went on to obtain an honours degree in Law from De
Montfort University, Leicester, and the final solicitors
examinations at the College of Law, Guildford.
David trained
with Day, Boot and Stone, Solicitors, in Nottingham and
upon qualification in 1984 stayed with that firm until
it merged with Howes Percival, a regional firm of solicitors.
David became a partner in that firm in 1989.
In 1991 David
was one of the founding partners of Barratt Goff & Tomlinson.
Throughout
his career in the law David has specialised in Personal
Injury cases, handling many claims involving injuries
of the utmost severity with settlements running in to several
millions of pounds. He has handled a large number of cases
involving children who have been in major accidents, including
those who have suffered serious head injuries or spinal
cord injury. He is a member of the Association of Personal
Injury Lawyers and is the secretary of their Spinal Injury Specialist
Group.
David has been recognised by Chambers Legal Directory
as one of the Leaders in the Personal Injury Field.
Outside
work David is a very keen cricketer (now retired) and alleges
that he was once a mean, fast bowler! He also has the rare
distinction of having once been the world tiddlywinks high
jump champion (he claims this was purely a stunt for charity,
but we are not so sure!).
He lives in the Vale of Belvoir
with his wife, Jay and children, Max, Theo and Lucy.
