Malcolm was born sometime ago in Croydon.
Having achieved his normal milestones and after checking
out potential careers as a dustman, potato picker, barman
and accountant he decided that a career in law was for
him. He qualified as a solicitor in 1984 and began specialising
in personal injury litigation in 1985, working in a busy
specialist practice in Holborn, London. He moved to Nottingham
in 1988 and in 1991, Malcolm was one of the founding partners
of Barratt Goff & Tomlinson.
Over the years he has conducted
many major claims involving serious spinal and head injuries.
Malcolm also specialises in clinical negligence claims
and is a member of both the Law Society Personal Injury
Panel and the Law Society Clinical Negligence Panel. In 1998
he was successful in the Court of Appeal on behalf of a child
who sued the health authority for failing to diagnose congenital
dislocation of the hip and obtained compensation for several
other children with this condition. Malcolm has acted for
many children in claims for serious damage sustained at birth.
He is a member of the
Association of Personal Injury Lawyers and a supporter
of AvMA (Action against Medical Accidents).
Outside work he
keeps himself busy failing to keep up with his children
and has been known to cycle to work and attend the gym!
