David was aged just 6 in 1986 when he
was hit by a car when running across a road. He sustained
a serious head injury and his parents sought legal advice
about making a claim. That solicitor decided that David had
no claim and his parents were turned away. In 1990 they tried
again but this time came to see Jill Barratt. Jill took on
the case and successfully established that the car driver's
insurers would pay full compensation to David.
It was still a long time however before the full effects
of the head injury could be established. Interim payment
funds enabled him to purchase adjoining properties so that
he could live in his own home but have his family close at
hand to support and care for him. A final settlement of 1.75
million pounds was agreed in 2001.
Jill continues to work for David because she has been appointed
David's
Receiver by the Court of Protection to look after David's financial affairs.
David has been looked after in the past and will continue to be looked after
in the future.
