Chris's Story
Chris was injured in a road traffic accident and suffered spinal cord injury. He went on to develop syringomyelia which increased the extent of his paralysis. The syrinx was successfully treated but there remained a significant risk of further deterioration in the future and if not treated successfully, his paralysis would increase which would result in Chris requiring more care, equipment and property adaptations.
The High Court in London approved settlement of Chris's compensation claim for £1,000,000.00 (less 30% contributory negligence) on a provisional basis which enables Chris to come back to the court at any time in the future to claim more compensation if his condition deteriorates due to syringomyelia.
This is one of the first cases where provisional damages have ever been awarded for victims of spinal cord injury and it is hoped that it will set a precedent for the future.
